Morgan dollars are popular worldwide especially in the US. (From an early dated article) Issued between 1878 and 1921 by the United States of America, the Morgan Dollar has been a favourite with the coin collectors of the nation. These silver dollars are known for their large size, appealing design, wide variety, and its historic significance. They can be collected according to their type, date and mint, designs, or die varieties. The Morgan Dollar is the first standard silver dollar to be issued after the Seated Liberty Dollar. Morgan who was an Assistant Engraver for the United States Mint. The diameter of the dollar measures 38.1 mm with a 2.4 mm thickness. It weighs a standard 26.73 gm and is made from 90% Silver and 10% Copper. The mint marks for the coins include ‘CC’ for Carson City, ‘S’ for San Francisco, ‘O’ for New Orleans, and ‘D’ for Denver while coins minted in Philadelphia bear no mint mark. The Morgan Dollar design was replaced by the Peace Dollar in 1921.
